Date Devils on Horseback

The classic devils on horseback, perfect starter on the BBQ

24 fresh dates
130g (3/4 cup) smoked almond kernels
60g butter, at room temperature
6 thin slices rindless bacon
Balsamic glaze (optional), to serve


1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Use a small sharp knife to cut a slit in each date. Remove and discard the stone.

2. Process the almonds in a food processor until coarsely chopped. Add the butter and process until well combined. Divide the mixture among the date cavities.

3. Cut each slice of bacon crossways into 4 pieces. Wrap a piece of bacon around each date. Use a toothpick to secure.

4. Place on a baking tray. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until heated through. Drizzle over a little balsamic glaze, if desired.
